Josh McCullar Architects

About

Josh McCullar Architects designs exceptionally crafted, site-specific, and meaningful projects that enrich the lives of its clients. We thrive with challenging sites and complex problems to reveal inherent design solutions embedded within them.

From urban and rural custom family houses, serene spa & pool environments, spaces for art, sacred space, and modern landscapes, we merge an artistic eye with technical precision to create places that establish and cultivate memories and relationships for vision-driven clients spanning the Upper South region, primarily focusing on Tennessee, the Carolinas, Virginia, and DC.

Ethos

As we are guided by a deep belief in the power of design to transform the simplest rituals of our lives, we aim to make places of evolutionary beauty - that celebrate the passage of time - and we believe that architecture at its best, strengthens the inherent qualities of the landscape to become a clarifying agent in affirming a sense of place.

Through place-making, we manifest the most fundamental task of architecture – to make shelter. Good places are extensions of the landscape, responsive to context, comfortable to be in, filled with natural light, and crafted of enduring materials.

Buildings should be beautiful and well-crafted, because the most sustainable building is a permanent one. To achieve this, we foster a symbiotic union between architecture and construction where the conceptualization of design is inseparable from how it is to be made. In each project, we seek a collaborative relationship with our clients, the contractor, and tradespeople who will execute the work.

Striving to create places of Authenticity, Beauty, and Meaning, we listen first, engage, and are inspired by our client's deepest aspirations. While remaining committed to the art of design, we provide a high level of focus to solve pragmatic needs, and transform constraints into exceptional opportunities.
